This is a link to a recent commentary on the Iraq War by Barry McCaffrey (sp.)
A quick summary:
1. The troop surge is working and reducing violence nationwide.
2. The Iraqis need to step up and grab the reins politically or this effort to reduce violence will go for naught.
3. The new Secretary of Defense is doing a good job and allowing his military leaders to handle the military aspects of the war (unlike his predecessor.)
4. We need to train up Iraqi security forces to the level where they can competently handle the job when we leave.
It's a good summary of our progress in Iraq and what needs to be done to finish the job.
