Some dragonflies on the Outer Banks

I have no ideas what the scientific names would be.

This guy flew inside one night. We used a spotlight to light him up. Made for great shots of the wings but the body got a bit blurred.

These next two were taken at the Pea Island Wildlife Refuge. If I'd been smart enough to push my ISO up to 400 they'd have been much better, but as they are they are OK.

It's funny how I've never seen real dragonflies until I came to Korea. There are tons of them here in the summer.

They aren't around in the Pacific Northwest? I thought they were pretty much everywhere.

I love the shadow of the dragonfly in the first shot. It's relatively lighter shade 'bridges' the contrast of the dragonfly's colour with the wall. As for those with the beige backgrounds, they have an almost crystal-like quality that might make for nice Christmas tree decorations;)
