I'll share with everyone the email I sent to our friends Monday afternoon:
Some sad news to share. This morning we had Fluffy put to sleep. She was fine last night but when we woke up this morning she was bleeding from her mouth. I took her to the vet and by the time we arrived she had a very low blood pressure and was very lethargic so we decided to be certain she wasn't suffering.
She had the best run of any cat who has ever lived. She belonged to Pam's grandmother as a lap kittie for old ladies for most of her life, then Fluffy came to live with my in laws. This was perfect until Jeanne decided to get another cat. Fluffy, for all her many glowing positives, did NOT play well with other cats. Or dogs for that matter. Probably birds too but we don't know that for fact. So we brought her to live with us and got to watch her sleep about 95% of the time and bother us for more food the rest of the time. A perfect arrangement.
She also got the blessing late in life of finally getting to eat soft food after a life of hard pellets. This, combined with the Marzocchi family trait of overfeeding animals led us to a cat that would actually beg for food on command. She would also look at us like we were insane when we left out the old dried food and meow loudly for her due (soft food.) Even an old cat can learn new tricks, it seems.
While her loss is incredibly sad for both of us, she brought a lot of joy to us in the time we had her (mainly by sitting around, doing nothing and allowing herself to be petted but still....) and we'll miss her.

Here is a photo retrospective of our little FluffPuff.
A few weeks ago Fluffy showed a lot of interest in what was we were doing in the backyard, so I opened the screen door expecting her to run away. Instead, she came outside with us and took a look around.
This statue. My guess is that the two neighborhood cats that roam through our backyard marked it somehow. She spent a good amount of time investigating him.
What? What's that over there?
Ahhh...grass I can eat......
Since we didn't want her puking in the house we stopped her before she could eat too much and brought her back outside, but we'll let her roam around some more later in the summer.

Day 983 of my captivity.
My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. Idiots.
They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am fed hash or some sort of dry brown nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.
The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to annoy them, I start every morning walking around the apartment and meow very loud.
Last night I dreamed that I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet and it strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, the dream turned bad as they merely made
condescending comments about what a 'good little hunter' I am.
There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of 'allergies.' I must learn what this means and how to use it to my advantage.
Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.
A dog sometimes comes my to visit and she receives special privileges. She is regularly released - and
seems to be more than willing to return. She is obviously not to smart and I treat her with the disdain she so richly deserves. She often tries to "play" with me until I give her a snarl and swipe of my claws. She will fear me, as will they all!
They also gave her a shampoo so her paws were a bit wet. This made for funny video.
I got my first roll back from the new Hi-Matic. I was a bit worried that a camera that old would have light leaks but that's not the case. Apparently it was so lightly used that even that wasn't a concern.
I took a couple of shots in the backyard:
And since Fluffy is a monochromatic cat, I desaturated and cropped one of the bed shots.
Cooked Pam a late Valentine's dinner tonight. It was pretty involved, so no food porn. I did two types of salmon. One in a foil pack with butter, capers, lemon and rosemary and the other was cooked on a cedar plank with mustard, dill and capers on top.
While that was cooking I made a risotto with tomato, basil and onions and some grilled asparasus with garlic and lemon.
Good times.
After that Fluffy joined us to watch some TV:
Then she decided to have some dessert of her own....
As for me I'm settling in for some classic John Wayne movies. The Sons of Katie Elder and Who Shot Liberty Valance.
